The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong-Parent book review

Quick Facts
  • Author-Kelley Armstrong
  • Pages-400
  • Genre-Urban Fantasy
  • Series-the Darkest Powers Trilogy book 1
  • Age-12 to 16
The Summoning’s plot revolves around the relationships between the teenagers in the special school and their process of discovering each other s special gifts. Some of the kids get along, other seem to despise each other. There are a few items that may be disturbing to some teens; some of the characters have lost a parent , one of the kids is taken away from the school and there is a fear that she is dead. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of depth in the book with regards to developing the characters. The book is mild when it comes to any sex and the language. There some violence with kids getting shot with tranquilizer guns, kids beating up each other; though none of the scenes are overly graphic. There are no real life lessons to mention. The book sort of moseys along with a cliff hanger at the end that makes you consider reading the next book. Not a bad book, but nothing I really felt brought a lot of value to the reading world or to life.
