The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong-Teen book review

Quick Facts
  • Author-Kelley Armstrong
  • Pages-400
  • Genre-Urban Fantasy
  • Series-the Darkest Powers Trilogy book 1
  • Age-12 to 16
Armstrong does a great job bringing her dark world to life, so much so that it almost seems natural. I enjoyed watching things slowly unfold for the main character, Chloe, as she learned about the world around her and how she fits into it. Sorry I can't explain the world because that would a big spoiler but it is worth the wait. Chloe is a realistic main character who is enjoyable to follow through out the book with dreams and physical faults, like her stutter which really brings her down to earth. The book doesn't have that much action till the end and does a lot of building up which I felt was a little drawn out, hence the majority of the book is slowly discovering the secrets of the people in it and their world. The ending is good and really sets up for the next book with a cliff hanger. In all it is a good read but not a great read because it is slow, I would still recommend it because of the interesting plot.
